Early 2010 was the first time i heard bout taqwacore,my sisi once again introduced me to it.i first went on youtube and checkd out the trailer since she told me it is also a movie,first of all i have never seen or heard anything like that,i was stunned.first of all taqwacore is a not only a genre of music but also a movement i mean i guess it gave me a lot of courage as a muslim kid,taqwacore basically is a portmanteau of hardcore and the arabic word "taqwa" which mean god fearing which is basically love and fear of god.its kind of a muslim punk scene and i aint talking bout gay ass blink 182 punk though i did listen to it when i was younger,i am talking bout "the ramones","dead kennedys" and "sex pistols" kinda punk.taqwacore does not only play punk it alao plays hip hop,i dont know how to define it exactly but i do know is that whoever is taqwacore(yes i said "who")can be themselves,they can throw their masks up in the air and me 101% themselves.taqwacore is also a book by michael muhammad knight(who kicks ass).i really have no clue what i am talking bout but i do know that now i can be myself no matter what and taqwacore is not only for muslims, its for evryone!in taqwacore people have their own definition of Islam there are people who drink alcohol and smoke weed but also pray five times a day!they defy and question some rules of Islam but they still love their faith!i am not here trying to justify my drinking or smoking,i am here to say "yes i pray five times a day,yes i am religious and yes i drink sometimes and smoke a lotta weed and yes i love a non muslim girl" orthodox muslims will tell me i am a sinner but i know people who know bout taqwacore will prolly tell me to take a shot and not care bout the orthodox!I respect and love my religion i dont mean to disrespect anyone!For me Islam is the way of life and this is how my life is!Sallam walaikum.
